Potty Training: Days 1 and 2

So yesterday we started potty training with Hailey.  She showed all the signs of being ready.  This weekend I took her to Target and let her pick out some "big girl" undies (she chose Minnie ones of course) and Sunday Jamie and I talked to her about using the potty from now on, wearing undies, no more diapers, etc. 

Today was day 2 and she has done FABULOUS.  Between yesterday and today she only had 3 accidents, which I consider pretty good.  Two were pee-pee accidents, each one first thing in the morning, and I blame those on her not yet being in the "groove" of going on the potty for the day. 

We have a "baby" potty in each bathroom which she has used a few times before, but Sunday she climbed right up onto the big potty, so we figured we'd just start her on there to save us another transition from the baby potty to the big one later on.  She's going on the big potty like a pro.

After considering several training methods, we chose to use a potty chart with stickers. 

pee-pee = 1 sticker
poo-poo = 2 stickers (poo-poos take more focus-- haha!)

We chose this one for several reasons.  One being that Hailey is obsessed with stickers, and could spend hours peeling sheets of them.  Two being we felt it was a tangible way for her to see her accomplishments.  This is opposed to giving her a piece of candy, then she eats it, it's gone and she has nothing to show for it.  With the chart she can look at it, see all of her stickers and understand that she got them for using the potty and can see how well she's done.  A bonus to this method is that she gets additional praise from Jamie the next day when she shows him her chart and explains how she earned the stickers. 

Each time she potties she gets to pick a sticker (or stickers) and put them on her chart.  So far this is working great for us.  She is so proud of her chart and loves to show off her stickers. 

Wahoo!  No more diapers!  Well actually, she will still wear a diaper / pull-up at night for now, because she sleeps 12 hours and can't be expected to hold her bladder for that long.  But we're on our way!
