Camden's Head -- Update

Camden has been in his Doc Band for exactly three weeks now, with the exception of about 4 days where we had to leave it off while we dealt with a heat rash.  But I can already see results!  Every night I take it off to clean it and give him a bath, but the other night I really took the time to examine his head and there is definitely a visible difference already.

Here are some "before" pictures, taken around Christmas:

In these pictures you can see how the back right side of his head has a flat spot, and the back left side of his head has a bulge.  The constant pressure on the back right side of his head not only caused his head to flatten on that side, but also caused the right side of his face to protrude out more slightly, causing that side of his face to appear more full when you look at him from the front.  From a bird's eye view, his forehead is sloped instead of being even.  Also, you can't see it in this picture, but his right ear is pushed forward about 1 cm more than his left.

An illustration of what Camden's head looks like (although his is not this severe) taken from Cranial Tech's website.

While this may appear to be mostly a cosmetic issue, it's really not.  If his head shape was left untreated, in the future it could cause him to have jaw misalignment, vision problems and balance problems-- which makes sense if you think about it, because if your skull is crooked, then it throws everything else off.  Also if he were to ever play sports, he could have trouble fitting into a helmet, and would also have issues with eyeglasses fitting properly if he ever needed them.

Anyway, throughout the time he is in his band, he will visit his head doctor at Cranial Technologies every 7-10 days so they can take measurements of his head progression and make adjustments to his band as his head changes shape.  Today was his second follow-up appointment and his clinician was very pleased with what she saw!  The flat spot is starting to round out and the bulge on the other side has really softened.  His forehead is also looking alot more even already and his ear has already started to shift as well.

I took this picture yesterday to show the results so far:

Isn't that amazing??  I can't believe it's changed that much already in only 3 weeks.  I'm so excited to see the progression as we go along!

On my way to a round head!
